Any art fans out there?
I guess fashion and art goes together well, like Romeo and Juliet, but unlike the famous Shakespearean couple, fashion and art have come together!
Art fans would probably be mad at this, in particular Monet fans. Nina Ricci, one of many, did a collection inspired by Claude Monet prints.
A new trend, and one I quite like, although would never wear myself, is the prints of famous art-work, designed on items of clothing
I quite like the idea of a dress having a print of another world on, and that is the main connotations I get when looking at Monet’s work. It seems to be of another place, somewhere quieter and peaceful - it makes my imagination run. But no matter how gorgeous the artwork is, I would not look like anything close to an oil painting in them. I would look like quite an idiot. I think it is my hair.

Without the belt, but still a modern-day peplum style.

Without the belt, but still a modern-day peplum style.

Peplum dresses have made a comeback.
After scanning through my recent copy of Vogue, I came across this new trend and immediately took a liking. The liking I felt towards these dresses was almost instant, a bit like the instantaneous realization of how absolutely stunning David Beckham is in the H&M adverts when you first saw the images.
They are perfect for those of us ladies who are larger on top and particularly those who have a little beer belly (for all you students out there who love going out 7 nights a week.)
The peplum is the new Spring/Summer trend however, it originated from the 1940s and is, to summarize, a fitted-type jacket attached to a skirt. In today’s fashion, these dresses are more casual, in bright colours, bright patterns and now, the peplum affect can be found in tops.
The dress or top, goes in at the waist, and some high street peplum styles have belts around the waist to highlight.
Although they are now in trend, I managed to find one in vintage shop for £8 (quite clearly those pricing it did not realise it would become a huge high-street trend otherwise they would have consequently removed it from the sale area.)
I think with these dresses, it is easy to unlike. Usually the peplum dresses have a frill around the hips and, I myself am certainly not a frill type of girl. I imagine those who like frills to like pink, and little cup-and-saucers, whereas I am a red fiend and mug enthusiast.
My peplum dress, as you can see, has a vintage pattern. I love the black and white combination- it goes nice with my black bowl cut. I do think however, that some may mistake this style for a standard, boring shirt-and-skirt combo, with waistbelt but, it is so much more.

Something about T-Bar shoes remind me of being a little girl.
I’d sit on the floor and my mum would ‘do them up’ for me whilst I fidgeted. At the time, I thought they were very bland and boring, old girls wore bright big heels and yet I wore plain black T-bar flatties. I’d be lucky if they had a detail on, maybe some sort of flower, or to be honest, anything else that would add to the innocence of childhood footwear - perhaps a bow or a cut-out love heart.
These shoes were practical. The T-bar ensured that no matter how much running after the young boys I did; even then I was boy-mad, or no matter how much ‘play’ fighting me and my twin participated in, then they would not fall off my little but energetic feet. They would scuff at the front though. And the patent shoes would soon be dull and grey. To me, shoes were not a novelty, they were something that held me back for 5 minutes whilst I was forced into them and was dying to play out.
However, shoes now, are a passion of mine. I rush to try them on, leaving all my bags- including my handbag- on the side (dangerously) whilst I prat around in front of the mirror in the latest shop that I have found my latest love in.
T-bar shoes still have an innocence about them, and I think this is why I love them. These however, are leopard print. A bit of a oxymoron these shoes aren’t they? Naughty-naughty animal print with good-girl T’s. Even the heel screams lady-like la-de-dar.
ASOS you have done me proud.

The new shoes I have bought. Oh dear god, they are too gorgeous. Electric blue with a gold-glitter heel and platform. Cleopatra-esque with a punch of the seventies. L-O-V-E

Car print! Looks like a 5 year-old has designed these quirky colour-block and block- heeled shoes what with the toy car illustrations along the t-bone strap. Want want want.

I have never really been a fan of snakeskin. If anyone mentioned snakeskin when I was younger, connotations of an old aunt, wrinkly, smoking and wearing lots of make up, would suddenly appear. I can imagine Mrs Trunchball from Matilda wearing snakeskin, something of a heirloom: it is prestigious and represents money and wealth. However, now, my taste seems to have changed. Wearing snakeskin mixed with a variety of different materials could look contemporary and edgy. It is now acceptable for the animal skin to be wore by a younger generation. Thanks to Gucci. Wearers will find it hard to pull off the slimy animal’s skin copycat and although some items will look good, I think it could be easy for the material to look tacky. Wear with care, and in small doses.

Oh, how jealous Cruella would be if I had this.

Oh, how jealous Cruella would be if I had this.

Move along Cruella, you’re not the only one who wants a Dalmation fur coat anymore! Although, I am sure, no one would actually want a real one, an emulation of Dalmation fur has found itself on the catwalk and on the High Street.
We all know that polka dots are already in the fashion cycle; each year without fail they come back, on different items, in different styles and colours but, this time the dot has a new face.
I am used to the 50s vibe of dots- lots of them sending me crazy in lady-like designs and very bright colours. But now, they are all in different sizes, messier and far more rebellious. Oh, and in the standard and sexy black and white.
Some may hate the pattern. Some may think its far to animal-like than human-like. That it looks better on the dog than on the owner, but all I know is now they are hitting the shops with a bang and no doubt, someone out there will love this new craze.

Although it is common knowledge that jumpsuits and playsuits can give the wearer a very unfortunate camel toe, something that I like to shout when I am drunk and feeling very uncomfortable in one, I still love them.
They are an easy outfit, an all in one; although the term ‘all in one’ reminds me of those fleecy pyjamas that you were forced into as a child or those fleecy pyjamas that Primark started to sell for adults the year before last, ew.
However, what ever happened to the cat-suit, the sexiest all in one? The one that made my brother think Jessie J looked fit in? The one that I distinctively remember being worn by cat woman and Charlie’s Angels?
Cat-suits, I like to summarize, are tight-fitting jumpsuits and are of a long length.
And, I found one. It is probably the naughtiest cat-suit going. Okay, well not as naughty as perhaps a leather or PVC one but still. This one plays on the mesh trend with its cut out and see-through shoulders. It gives a sexy look without anyone having to get naked.
I want it.
Although I know I probably wouldn’t have the confidence to wear it, my mind it still trying to convince me. It would look amazing hanging in my wardrobe.

Whilst the warmth and cheeriness of summer fades and early nights darken our mood, Autumn/Winter fashion seems like one of the few things that will excite me over the forthcoming months.
And, excitement was what I felt when I saw Stella McCartney’s Winter collection.
Polka dots are back, to be honest, when did they leave? and now this designer, daughter of Paul McCartney, has combined the 50s print with mesh inserts to give the flamboyant pattern a naughtier companion.
Mesh inserts; a way to show skin without actually baring all, were popular last year when fashion website ASOS included the design in many of its formal dresses and now, it is back.
The high street will hopefully emulate this lovely collection for a fraction of a price as I really do not think my dad will buy me a real Stella McCartney dress for Christmas, no matter how much I tell him it is a necessity.
Polka dots will be sending you dotty over the next few months. Without a doubt, they will be everywhere.

There is always a necessity about having a handbag. On every night out I plan, it is essential for me to carry one on my shoulder or under my arm. In some cases, the bigger the better; large pockets to store all the UNnecessary day-to-day items, various new and old lipsticks as well as a mountain of receipts. Now, handbags are classed as accessories, something to finish off an outfit, to flatten the bulk in your trouser pockets and to match what you are wearing.
Although clutch bags, to me, are dangerous, (one drunken slip of the arm can easily lead to possessions being lost/stolen or broken, and yes I am speaking from experience) there is something classy and Audrey Hepburn-esque about the strapless purse; your shoulder doesn’t slouch under the weight, nor does the bag whip around hitting people whilst you are dancing (again I am speaking from experience).
Clutch bags became popular during World War II as the rationing of materials caused handbags to be made much smaller than previously.
This ‘book club’ clutch bag combines formality with quirkiness. The shape and type of handbag is very feminine whilst the design, of a book, gives it an edge to the usually basic clutch.
Also, wearers will probably look far more intelligent than usual, assuming that some people (male?) will mistake it as a real book.

The summer weather has inspired me to do something productive. I’ve sewn patches (an old lace handkerchief and pieces of an old orange skirt) on my yellow, high waisted denim shorts. Blue dye had ran on them in the wash. Now they are wearable! Yey!
